Key points
- One passenger out of 242 survived the plane crash in India – 40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, who left the plane seconds before the fire.
- The simulation showed that the probable rescue was made possible by the location of seat 11A near the emergency exit and over the wing.
- Ramesh recalls a “loud noise” and “flashes of light” after takeoff and was rescued by a passerby who rushed him to an ambulance.
Only one person out of 242 on board survived the plane crash in India on June 12. A simulation showed how 40-year-old British man Vishwash Kumar Ramesh managed to survive.
This was reported by 24 Channel with reference to Unilad.
How Vishwash Kumar Ramesh Survived
The simulation modeled two possible versions of Vishwash Kumar Ramesh's rescue. The first is that the man jumped through the emergency exit while still in the air, the second is that he managed to leave the plane just a few seconds before it caught fire.
The most likely scenario is the second one, the newspaper writes. According to Ramesh, he was sitting in seat 11a on the plane and managed to get out before the plane caught fire.
When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed me, put me in an ambulance and took me to the hospital, – says the surviving man.

Video footage from the scene shows a bystander approaching the bloodied and limping man and leading him to emergency services.
Ramesh said he could not explain everything that happened, but clearly remembered a “loud noise” and “flashes of light” after takeoff.
Note that seat 11A, where Ramesh was flying, is located next to the emergency exit. Also, this seat is located above the wing, which provides greater structural strength.
