The Holy See was in the role of observer, and in Delhi they do not want to sign anything without the presence of Kremlin representatives.
In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Affairs of India explained why this country, which participated in the Peace Summit initiated by Ukraine in Switzerland, did not support the joint communiqué.
This is stated in the official clarification published on Sunday, June 16.
The Indian authorities explained their participation in this international forum by concern about the “situation in Ukraine” and support for any collective desire to “promote a peaceful resolution of the conflict.”
At the same time, Delhi insists that “peace requires the unification of all interested parties and sincere and practical interaction between the two sides of the conflict,” without naming the Russian Federation.
“In our opinion, only those options that are acceptable to both sides can lead to lasting peace. In line with this approach, we have decided to avoid any connection with the General Communiqué or any other document arising from this summit,” the Indian Foreign Ministry said in a clarification.
An explanation also appeared from the Vatican, which is not among the signatories of the joint communiqué, although it was represented at the Peace Summit.
The Vatican Press Service, at the request of Russian propagandists from RIA Novosti, explained that the Holy See was in observer status at this forum, which excludes the possibility of signing any documents.
Probably for the same reason there were no signatures under the common document of the UN and the Ecumenical Patriarchate, as well as Brazil – all of them also had observer status.
The full list of countries that have not signed the communique is as follows: Armenia, Bahrain, Colombia, Qatar, India, Indonesia, Libya, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Thailand, United Arab Emirates.
We recall that earlier Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Igor Zhovkva said that representatives of some countries that took part in the Peace Summit in Switzerland did not have the necessary authority to sign important documents.
