Vladimir Omelchenko, director of energy programs at the Razumkov Center, spoke about this in a commentary to RBC.Ukraine.
The shortage of generating capacity has led to the country returning to blackout schedules during peak hours. Increasing electricity tariffs is an opportunity to finance repairs of state-owned power plants, reduce market debt and improve the financial situation in energy companies.
However, according to the expert, there is a risk that after increasing tariffs on energy supply, they will limit them even more. This is due to the summer time, because at this time the repair company will be more expensive due to hot weather and increased consumption.
“Therefore, the deficit in the system will increase and may be especially large already in July. And the timing of outages may seriously increase,” said Omelchenko.
He suggested that future blackouts will be felt most by the residents of Kiev . After all, the definition of limits now does not take into account the presence of critical infrastructure, of which there is a lot in the capital sometimes it works for the whole country. That is why there were more outages in Kyiv last week than the national average.
Recall that Energy Minister German Galushchenko announced how long the power outages will last. The introduction of power outages depends on a number of factors. It is still difficult to predict any time frame.
