Two Ukrainian TV channels on New Year's Eve showed an appeal to the citizens of the former president of the country, Petro Poroshenko, instead of congratulating the current head of state, Volodymyr Zelensky. The publication “Gordon” drew attention to this.
Thus, the Pryamiy channel at 23:56 began broadcasting Poroshenko's speech. After midnight, viewers were able to watch the video from Zelensky. In the broadcasting network of Channel 5, the address of the Ukrainian leader was shown long before the New Year, and the ex-president's congratulations began at 23:56 and ended at 00:00.
The former head of state recorded a video with his wife Marina: he talked about his trips to Donbass and the fight against Russian aggression, and his wife talked about countering coronavirus infection.
“Ukrainians are wonderful, open and kind. It doesn't depend on who votes for whom. We are citizens, one great nation. (…) Let the new year be a year of victories for the country and each of you. I am firmly convinced that our main victories are still ahead, ”the ex-head of state said.
The TV channels in question broadcast congratulations to Poroshenko for the third year in a row. In 2020, it was broadcast in the same sequence as this time – before or after Zelensky's speech, so that it ends at 00:00. Pryamiy and Channel 5 belonged to the former Ukrainian president. On November 8, 2021, after the law on oligarchs was signed, he announced their sale to the Free Media holding.
