In Ukraine, TV channels criticized for poor Ukrainian voice acting

The National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting accused the country's television channels of insufficient efforts to protect the state language. This was reported on the official Facebook page of the regulator.

In particular, the channels were criticized for the poor Ukrainian voice acting of television content. “The broadcasters did not prepare for the transition to broadcasting in the state language for two years, which were given by the legislator – they did it at the last moment carelessly, primitively and formally,” the department stressed.

The National Council announced the need for fines for violating the country's language legislation and incentives for creating high-quality Ukrainian-language content. The regulator also called on TV channels to make every effort to ensure that the Ukrainian language “takes its rightful place on the air and on online platforms as the language of success, style, and high quality.”

Earlier, Taras Kremen, Ombudsman for the Protection of the State Language of Ukraine, accused the Ukrainian TV channels Inter, Ukraine, ICTV, Mega, NTN and K1 of violating the law “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language.” It is noted that the ombudsman's secretariat caught them in showing films and TV series in Russian.

In 2019, the law “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as a state language” came into force in Ukraine. According to him, “mova” becomes mandatory for state and local authorities, educational institutions, hospitals and the service sector.
