The Day of the Defender of Ukraine has been renamed the Day of the Defenders and Defenders of Ukraine, according to the office of the Ukrainian president.
Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law to change the name of the national holiday “Defender of Ukraine Day” to “Day of Defenders and Defenders of Ukraine.”
“The document will contribute to gender-balanced coverage of the role of military personnel in protecting our country and proper honoring of soldiers of both sexes,” it was reported.
The document notes that many women, along with men, took part in “protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.”
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed the law “On the indigenous peoples of Ukraine”, which Russian leader Vladimir Putin considered discriminatory.
