In Ukraine, protesters blocked a section of the Boryspil-Mariupol highway in the Poltava region in protest against higher gas and electricity prices. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the UNIAN agency.

“This morning, residents of the urban-type settlement Gradizhsk, Poltava region, went to a protest against the increase in gas and electricity tariffs. About 200 protesters blocked the Boryspil-Mariupol highway. The protesters walked along the pedestrian crossings. A traffic jam has formed because of the road blockage, ”an UNIAN correspondent said.

Because of the protest, intercity buses had to change routes, the agency said.

Earlier, a similar action was held on the Kiev-Kharkov highway in the Poltava region.

In January, Naftogaz increased the gas price for the population by 14 percent – up to 7.22 hryvnia per cubic meter, including VAT and excluding distribution costs. Also, at the end of December, the Ukrainian government canceled the preferential tariff for electricity for the population.
