Kyiv refused to negotiate with Moscow, because he was not satisfied with the conditions. This was stated by Advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Oleksiy Arestovich, RIA Novosti reports.
“It just became known to me that Ukraine refused to negotiate. Because the conditions that the Russian side has altered through intermediaries do not satisfy us. It was an attempt to force us to surrender,” he said. At the same time, he did not provide details about exactly what conditions Russia proposed.
Arestovich also added that Ukraine had signaled to Russia that the terms of a peace treaty might be possible on Kyiv's terms.
Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky agreed to talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, after which Kyiv began to consult with Moscow on the time and place of negotiations. According to the press secretary of the head of the Ukrainian state, Sergei Nikiforov, Ukraine is ready to talk about a ceasefire and peace.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to conduct a special military operation in the Donbass amid reports of a worsening situation in the region and the appeal of the authorities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics to Russia for help.
