The tribunal over the former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, as a result of which the politician was sentenced to death, was held with violations. Former US Ambassador to Iraq Robert Ford told about this in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“There were undoubtedly problems in the process itself. Some of the defenders were killed, which was terrible. During the trial itself, the prosecution sometimes presented evidence, not allowing the defense to see it, ”the diplomat said. At the same time, he stressed that many evidences confirmed the involvement of Hussein in the massacres.
Dictator Saddam Hussein was executed on December 30, 2006. He was arrested as a result of the US invasion of Iraq, which took place under the pretext of searching for weapons of mass destruction, the presence of which in the country has not been confirmed. However, the prosecution was able to prove Hussein's guilt in the killings of the Iraqi population.
Former US Secretary of State Colin Powell died in October 2021 at the age of 84 due to complications caused by the coronavirus. In 2003, Powell spoke at the UN Security Council chamber with a test tube in his hands, speaking about the need to bring troops into Iraq to prevent the use of weapons of mass destruction by Saddam Hussein.
