BWX Technologies CEO Rex Geveden has revealed some of the plans for the next-generation nuclear submarine (NPS) of the US Navy, USNI News reported.
According to the head of an enterprise that produces nuclear reactors for American submarines and aircraft carriers, the new nuclear submarine will be comparable in diameter to ships of the Columbia class, whose hull width reaches 12.8 meters.
USNI News recalls that the diameter of the Virginia-class submarines is approaching 10.5 meters. “A wider submarine hull could improve performance such as stealth, which allows ship designers to create more sound-absorbing technologies and allows systems to be developed to increase boat speed,” the publication writes.
In February, the annual Mil.Press FLOT ranking stated that the level of combat capabilities in 2019, the Russian Navy (Navy) is more than twice inferior to the US Navy.
In the same month, the commander of the United States Second Fleet, Vice Admiral Andrew Lewis, said that the United States should maintain an advantage over Russia in the North Atlantic. “It is now fairly well known that our homeland is no longer a refuge,” then Vice Admiral Daryl Caudle admitted, referring to the potential threat of Russian submarines capable of approaching the US coast.
