The aircraft took off on its first flight from Palmdale, California, where the 43rd Air Force Plant is located.
Northrop Grumman's newest flying-wing bomber, the B-21 Raider, capable of carrying nuclear weapons, has made its first flight from a US Air Force manufacturing base.
Reuters reports this.
“The B-21, which has the same flying-wing design as its B-2 predecessor, can carry both conventional and nuclear weapons,” the report notes.
The aircraft took off on its first flight from Palmdale, California, where the 43rd Air Force Plant is located.
According to US Air Force spokeswoman Anne Stefanek, “the B-21 Raider is in the flight test phase.” Six test aircraft are currently being produced.
According to preliminary information, the new bomber will cost about $750 million.
It is noted that the US Air Force plans to purchase at least 100 such aircraft in the future and begin replacing the fleet of B-1 and B-2 bombers.
