Devin Nunes
In the US, the court dismissed the claim of Congressman Devin Nunes against The Washington Post in the “Russian case.” Forbes reports.
The judge granted the petition to dismiss the libel suit against the newspaper, as he considered that there was no malicious intent in the publication of the “Russian investigation”.
It is noted that Nunes, who in 2016-2019 served as head of the House Intelligence Committee, himself has repeatedly supported US President Donald Trump in the “Russian investigation.” The reason for the libel suit was the statement in The Washington Post article that it was Nunes who told Trump that Russia would like him to be reelected as president of the United States.
Earlier it was reported that Trump had pardoned 15 persons, including those involved in the case of alleged Russian interference in the US elections in 2016. Among those pardoned is the former adviser to the campaign headquarters of the American leader George Papadopoulos. In September 2018, he was convicted of perjury by the FBI. Papadopoulos' lie related to his meeting with an unnamed professor, allegedly with ties to the Russian government.
In April 2019, US Special Attorney Robert Mueller published a report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, which Trump won. The report says that Moscow did interfere in the American electoral process, but suspicions about the connection between the Russian side and Trump could not be confirmed. Later, the Federal Court of Washington ruled that the connection of the “troll factory” with the Russian authorities was also not proven.
