In September of this year, the statue was dismantled, and in the pedestal they came across a mysterious find. Now a new challenge for historians is to retrieve a capsule, probably hidden in a heavy boulder.
Julie Langan, director of the Virginia Department of Historical Resources, noted that the conservation laboratory is already accustomed to working with tiny pieces of pottery, ancient bones, or glass, but scientists have never had to examine a stone block.
