In the US, the Russian Doomsday weapon was called unreal

The Poseidon nuclear underwater drone is being developed by Russia because Moscow is unable to create a modern “real weapon”, writes the American magazine Forbes, calling the “Doomsday” weapon unnecessary.

According to military expert Kingston Rafe, the concept of such a nuclear drone is “grotesque and, objectively speaking, completely unnecessary,” since it will take about two days for Poseidon, which launches from a submarine near the mainland of Russia, to reach the shores of the United States. “What is the value of a weapon that takes so long to reach its target?” – the specialist asks.

According to military expert Owen Cote, the logic of Poseidon is political in nature, allowing Russia to “create the illusion of something new and significant,” thereby preserving the image of a nuclear superpower. “It is becoming more and more difficult for Russia to do it the old-fashioned way, creating a lot of real weapons,” the specialist added.

Military expert Pavel Luzin admitted that “Poseidon” actually means a complex of deep-sea research work, and a nuclear torpedo itself is not a weapon. Military expert Pavel Podvig, interviewed by an American magazine, refused to understand the logic of the Doomsday weapon.

In January, the TASS agency, citing a source in the shipbuilding industry, reported that by 2027 the Russian Navy (Navy) would receive a third Poseidon carrier.

Earlier, the Izvestia newspaper, referring to the terms of reference for the implementation of the relevant work, reported that Russia in June 2022 will complete the construction of the coastal base for the Poseidons.

In May 2020, RIA Novosti, referring to a source, reported that Poseidon “is not yet assembled, individual components and assemblies are being tested.”
