The letter talks about events in the Middle East.
More than 400 political appointees and staffers representing nearly 40 government agencies sent a letter to President Biden on Tuesday, November 14, protesting his support for Israel in the Gaza war.
The New York Time writes about this.
The letter calls on the United States to seek an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and push Israel to allow humanitarian aid into the territory.
“This is the latest of several letters of protest from Biden administration officials, including three internal memos from Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken signed by dozens of State Department employees, as well as an open letter signed by more than 1,000 employees of the U.S. Agency for International Development.” message.
The signers of the letter, sent Tuesday and distributed to USAID employees, are anonymous, the USAID letter explained, out of “concerns for our personal safety and the risk of potential loss of employment.” Signatories to State Department cables are required to disclose their names, but the cables have not been made public.
Although the Biden administration has recently begun expressing concern about the high number of Palestinian civilians killed while calling on Israel to show restraint, such new criticism does not seem to reassure many in the US government.
“We call on President Biden to urgently demand a ceasefire; and to call for a de-escalation of the current conflict by ensuring the immediate release of Israeli hostages and arbitrarily detained Palestinians; the restoration of water, fuel, electricity and other basic services; and the flow of adequate humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip,” in the leaves .
Two political appointees who helped organize the letter to Mr. Biden said most of the signatories are political appointees of different faiths serving in government, from the National Security Council to the FBI. and the Ministry of Justice.
Let us add that the US administration believes that Israel is making efforts to minimize civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip.
