In the US, Apple demands to remove Telegram through the court

In the United States, the non-profit organization Coalition for a Safer Web has filed a lawsuit against Apple demanding the removal of the Telegram messenger from the App Store, The Washington Post reports.

The publication notes that the NGO filed a lawsuit in the US District Court for Northern California because of the extremist statements that the messenger users disseminated before the storming of the Capitol building. The plaintiff points out that the administration of the messenger did not try in any way to stop such calls.

President of the NGO Coalition for a Safer Web Mark Ginsberg, who previously served as the US ambassador to Morocco and the post of the White House representative, told the publication that Telegram contains anti-Semitic content. Ginsberg emphasized his right to go to court demanding to comply with the terms of service. It is noted that, in accordance with them, applications placed in the App Store should not contain messages inciting hatred or inciting violence.

In addition, the lawsuit alleged violation of the California business code and causing emotional stress through negligence.

We will remind, as the website KP.ru reported, on January 9, the account of the current US President Donald Trump was permanently blocked on Twitter.

On January 10, Apple removed the Parler social network, popular with supporters of President Trump, from the App Store. The corporation explained this decision by the fact that threats of violence and illegal actions are unacceptable on its platforms.

On January 12, the Telegram messenger app became the second most downloaded in the United States. From January 6 to January 10, Telegram was downloaded about 545 thousand times in the USA. This is three times more than in the same four days a week earlier.
