The United States expressed concern that some of the evacuated Afghans could be left homeless. This is reported by the Axios portal.
The article notes that to date, about 48 thousand people have been resettled as part of the Allies Welcome operation. Another 26,000 are at seven military bases in the country, where they are undergoing procedures related to immigration, medical examinations and vaccinations. At the same time, people relocated by the Department of State and local services receive assistance in the first 30-90 days with housing, finding a job, enrolling children in school and teaching English.
However, lawyer Shekeba Morrad, who is volunteering to help resettlement, has raised concerns among community organizers. The main concern, he said, is the danger of Afghans becoming homeless when support runs out.
On August 15, the radical Taliban movement ( banned in Russia ) took control of the entire territory of Afghanistan amid the withdrawal of American troops from the country. The evacuation of American troops and a diplomatic mission from Afghanistan officially ended on August 31, 2021.
