The joint flight of four strategic bombers B-1B Lancer and B-2 Spirit of the US Air Force (Air Force) in the region of Iceland, Greenland and Great Britain allows the latter to maximize their advantages and minimize disadvantages, according to the American magazine Forbes.
The publication notes that these aircraft “can hit targets around the world, taking off from their bases in the United States,” and their joint training flight was a clear demonstration of strength for “two spectators” – US allies in NATO and Russia.
The magazine reminds that the joint use of different strategic bombers will be successful only if the appropriate mission is planned correctly. “Look what happened in Libya in 2011. NATO forces were gathering off the coast of an African country. Their goal is to prevent the Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi from attacking his own people, ”the newspaper writes.
Forbes notes that on March 19, 2011, three B-2 Spirits flying directly from Missouri carried a combined 48 bombs that destroyed 45 targets at Gardabia AFB, and eight days later, a pair of B-1B Lancers flying out of South Dakota struck on ammunition depots, airfields and other military facilities in Libya. “Only five bombers hit about 150 targets,” the newspaper recalls.
In March, The Drive reported that strategic bombers B-1B Lancer and B-2 Spirit of the US Air Force took part in a joint training flight in mid-March off the coast of Iceland, Greenland and Great Britain, where Russian warships and aircraft may appear.
In February, The Drive wrote that it is not at all difficult to imagine a future conflict in which the B-1B Lancer and B-52 Stratofortress groups of the US Air Force will be tasked with hitting the same common sets of targets over a wide area.
