US national security adviser Jake Sullivan said that Russia allegedly wants to fabricate a pretext for an “invasion” of Ukraine. He announced this on Thursday, January 13, at a briefing for journalists, his words are quoted by TASS.
“Our intelligence community is processing information that Russia is working to fabricate a pretext for an invasion, including sabotage and information operations, accusing Ukraine of preparing an attack on Russian forces in eastern Ukraine,” he said.
According to him, according to the same scenario, events unfolded in 2014. “We will provide the press with additional details of what we believe to be such a potential pretext creation within 24 hours,” the adviser to the American president said.
Earlier, Sullivan said that sanctions against Russia in the event of an escalation in Ukraine are part of the available toolkit. According to him, Washington has other leverage. “We have other tools that we can use. These tools relate to the interests and opportunities in the field of security of the Russian Federation,” he specified.
