US Republican Senator John F. Kennedy proposed controlling idiots instead of weapons: his statement came against the backdrop of a proposal to ban firearms. Politics quoted by The Washington Time.
“How can we control idiots? We have already tried, in particular the GOP supporters (…). It is necessary to strengthen control over the national database, over those who own weapons. If someone has committed crimes, if he has a propensity for cruelty, or has mental illness, and this person is sick, his name should be in the database, “- said Kennedy.
On March 23, US President Joe Biden once again called on Congress to step up efforts to tighten control over firearms and even ban certain types of firearms. The American leader's proposal came against the backdrop of the tragedy in Colorado, which became the second case of mass shooting in the United States in one week. The first incident killed ten people, the second – a shooting occurred in Atlanta, Georgia – eight people were killed.
Numerous cases of mass shooting in the United States have still not led to the adoption of a gun control law. Reuters points out that this is largely due to the opposition of Republicans in Congress. The right to bear arms is enshrined in the Second Amendment to the US Constitution, and many Americans value it.
At the same time, according to polls, about 70 percent of Americans support the introduction of strict restrictions on the carrying of weapons.
