U.S. Senator from Oklahoma James Lankford proposed imposing sanctions against Minsk for assisting Russia. This is reported on his website.
Lankford said the bill is intended to stop Belarus from supporting “Russian aggression” and to keep it from allowing the country to be used to invade Ukraine by Russian troops. According to the initiative, Washington should introduce the same response measures both to the Russian Federation and to any other country that will assist it “in violating the territorial integrity of Ukraine.”
Earlier, the US authorities claimed that Russia could allegedly attack Ukraine from the territory of Belarus. Western leaders were concerned about joint exercises between the two countries. The US State Department also said that the draft of the updated Constitution of Belarus may also indicate the plans of the authorities to allow the deployment of both conventional and nuclear forces of the Russian Federation in the country.
