In the United States created a robot that recognizes objects underground
Engineers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have created a robot capable of recognizing objects underground, according to the resource Engadget.
Scientists have improved the robot with a tactile sensor in such a way that it can find objects underground or in the sand, sifting granular material.
The robot moves with a robotic arm and creates vibration that allows it to penetrate the sand. He can also rotate and assess the size and shape of the object using a special camera. It captures the reflection of objects and, based on the data obtained, forms a three-dimensional shape of the objects.
The creators intend to use the robot in several areas – it can both help archaeologists find objects in the sand, and be used to find mines and damage on underground cables. In addition, the robot will be useful in finding people during earthquakes and landslides.
Earlier it became known that a robot that cares for hair was created in the United States.
