The US leadership believes that Russia has increased its military presence on the border with Ukraine by 7,000 people. It is reported by TASS.
“Yesterday, the Russian authorities announced that they were withdrawing troops from the border with Ukraine. This statement attracted a lot of attention both here and in the world, ”says a senior Washington administration official. At the same time, in his opinion, Russia allegedly increased its military presence along the border with Ukraine.
“All the signs that we see indicate that they intend only to publicly offer to talk and declare de-escalation, and privately mobilize for war,” the official said.
Earlier, the US State Department said that Russia continues to pull troops to the border with Ukraine and does not de-escalate the situation. The US Foreign Office added that Washington's concern about Ukraine has not diminished one iota.
Reports of “Russia's plans to invade Ukraine” appeared in the US media in the fall of 2021. They were quickly picked up by American and Ukrainian politicians.
