The omicron strain of coronavirus is spreading rapidly in the United States. This was announced by the director of the US National Institute of Allergic and Infectious Diseases Anthony Fauci on the air of the ABC channel.
“This is really extremely unusual. The number of infected doubles in two to three days. If at the beginning the increase in the number of infections with the omicron strain amounted to several percent of the total number of cases, then you can simply count and it will become clear how this level has risen sharply from 8-10 percent a week ago to 73 percent at the moment. The spread of the virus is truly unprecedented, ”Fauci said.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the omicron strain COVID-19 has become the dominant strain, accounting for about three quarters of infections in the country.
Earlier, The Wall Street Journal, citing representatives from the health sector, said that an increase in the number of patients infected with the new omicron strain is expected in the United States, despite the fact that the country's hospitals are not ready for this.
