Deb Haaland

The US Senate has approved the Native American Deb Haaland as head of the US Department of the Interior. It is reported by CNN with reference to the results of the vote in the upper house of Congress.

Haaland, 60, became the first indigenous woman to be appointed minister. It is noted that in her post she will deal with land use issues, and will also take part in the implementation of the climate change policy proposed by US President Joe Biden.

Earlier, the politician said that it would be a great honor for her to help Biden's team “restore relations between the government and the tribes that have been undermined by the Trump administration.”

Haaland is a member of the Lagoon Pueblo Indian tribe, which lives near the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
