MOSCOW, October 19. / TASS /. The creators of the first atlas of caves in Russia became laureates of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) prize in the category “Best Scientific Project”. The award ceremony took place on Tuesday in Moscow.
In the nomination “The best historical and cultural project” the winner was the project “Common cause. Revival of wooden churches of the North”. The best media project was the documentary “Red Sockeye. Fish”. The award was presented to the nominees by the famous film actor Steven Seagal.
The project “The Main Facade of Russia. History, Events, People” was declared the winner in the nomination “The Best Expedition in Russia”. In the nomination “Best Educational Project” the winner was the “Educational Expedition”. The A. Leonov Underwater Training Center was declared the best youth project. The program for the creation of a semi-free population of the Przhevalsky horse in the state nature reserve “Orenburgsky” has been declared the best environmental project. The project “Tourist route: Dyatlov pass – source of Pechora – Manpupuner plateau” was recognized as the best tourist project.
In addition, a special prize of the Russian Geographical Society in the nomination “The best educational project in the field of geography” was awarded to the project “Traveling around Russia with a magic pencil.”
Applications for the prize of the Russian Geographical Society were accepted from February 17 to June 1, 2020. The RGS Prize was established to increase interest in projects in the field of national geography, ecology, preservation of the natural, historical and cultural heritage of Russia.
The Russian Geographical Society was established by the decree of Emperor Nicholas I in 1845. The RGS has regional branches throughout the country. In 2009, Sergei Shoigu was elected President of the Russian Geographical Society. In 2010, the Board of Trustees of the Russian Geographical Society was created, headed by Vladimir Putin.
