Bailiffs came to the Russian office of Google, located in the capital's business center “Balchug Plaza”. A girl met them at the front desk. The employee contacted a lawyer who advised the bailiffs to contact Google LLC, the company's head office in the United States. Earlier, Russian courts fined Google 32.5 million rubles for refusing to remove information and videos prohibited in the Russian Federation, which they considered interfering in the Duma elections.
The visit of the bailiffs took place on the evening of September 13th. The video of the communication of federal service employees with representatives of the Moscow office of Google was published by the Telegram channel Mash.
On September 29, in the Moscow Magistrates' Court, a hearing will be held on a new fine for Google in the amount of 4 million rubles for failure to delete prohibited information.
On July 29, the company was fined 3 million rubles for non-compliance with the law, which obliges to store personal data of Russians only on the territory of the Russian Federation. Roskomnadzor also issued fines under this article of the Administrative Code to Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp.
The most resonant legal case involving Google remains the company's case with the Tsargrad TV channel after the blocking of its account on the video hosting YouTube. The channel “Constantinople” on YouTube was blocked because the US imposed sanctions against the owner of the media resource Konstantin Malofeev.
In April, the Moscow Arbitration Court ruled that the blocking was illegal, ruling to recover from Google, as the owner of YouTube, a progressive legal penalty, the amount of which starts from 100,000 rubles for each day of non-execution of the court's decision. The starting amount will be doubled weekly, so that in 7 months the amount of the penalty will reach 94 trillion rubles – this is comparable to the capitalization of Google's parent company – Alphabet. And much more than the annual budget of Russia – its revenues in 2021 should amount to 18.8 trillion rubles.
Google has threatened to withdraw from Russia if an appeal upholds the court's ruling. The Ninth Arbitration Court of Appeal has scheduled a hearing for September 20.
