In the center of Paris, the speed of cars was limited to 30 km / h
From today, it is possible to move in the center of Paris by car only at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour, AFP reports.
The restriction was introduced on almost all roads, with the exception of the roundabout (Periferik), where you can still drive at a speed of 70 km / h. The innovation also does not apply to the boulevards that encircle the city and large avenues, such as the Champs Elysees. They can accelerate to 50 km / h. In this way, the Paris mayor's office wants to improve road safety and reduce noise. The speed limit is also linked to the adaptation of the French capital to climate protection measures. The plans of the authorities from 2030 to ban the use of cars with internal combustion engines and even with hybrid engines in Paris.
According to a poll conducted by the Ifop Sociological Institute, the majority of Parisians (61%) approve of the speed limit in the capital to 30 km / h. At the same time, this measure caused discontent among residents of the suburbs of Paris, who are forced to travel to the capital to work.
