Lee Seol Joo and Kim Jong Un
The South Korean press started talking about the disappearance of the wife of the DPRK leader Kim Jong-un, Lee Sol-chu. According to the Daily NK, the wife of the North Korean leader has not appeared in public for more than nine months.
The DPRK's government publications last captured Lee Seol-ju on January 25, 2020, as she and her husband went to a theater in Pyongyang for a New Year's performance. Since then, she has not been seen in public. She also did not attend the military parade held on October 10 at Kim Il Sung Square.
Daily NK sources in North Korea cite several possible reasons for Lee Sol Joo's disappearance from the public field. First, she is caring for Kim Kyung Hee, the younger sister of Kim Jong Il, due to the fact that Kim Jong Un is very attached to her aunt, who may be sick. The second is that the spouse of the DPRK leader has health problems.
According to other sources, Li Sol Joo stopped appearing in public due to the spread of the coronavirus in order to protect herself and her family, since “many do not wear masks properly during public events.”
This is not the first time South Korea has reported the mysterious disappearance of Kim Jong-un or his family. So, on August 20, it was reported that the North Korean leader handed over some of the powers to his younger sister, Kim Yeo Jong, in order to “relieve stress.” It was reported that she will be responsible for policy towards South Korea and the United States, and will also deal with general issues.
In April, Kim Jong-un disappeared from media coverage for several days, prompting rumors of his possible death or illness. In particular, the former North Korean ambassador to London Tae Yong-ho, who fled to South Korea in 2016, stated that the North Korean leader cannot stand up on his own or walk normally. In Russia, these reports were denied, and in the United States they declared the need to prepare for anything. However, already in May, Kim Jong Un appeared in public safe and sound.
