Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo hosted a reception for Ukrainian athletes who arrived in the city for the Olympics, and awarded their Grand Medal of Vermeil, which is the highest distinction of the French capital.

“I can imagine today both your sadness and your pride. The sadness of realizing that your country is still being attacked and warred, that many of your friends and relatives are on the front lines and fighting,” Hidalgo said.
On behalf of the Ukrainian athletes, rower Anastasia Kozhenkova and diver Alexey Sereda, who have already completed their performances at the Olympics, received a medal from the mayor of Paris.
