Igor Matovich
Slovak Foreign Minister Ivan Korchok apologized to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba for a joke about Transcarpathia. He wrote about this on his Facebook page.
“I apologized to him for the statement made by the Prime Minister of Slovakia to Ukraine,” Korchok emphasized, talking about the past telephone conversations with his colleague. At the same time, he admitted that he was especially embarrassed in this situation, since a few days ago he had a meeting in Kiev with Kuleba, during which the ministers “held good negotiations on how to further develop relations between the two countries.”
Kiev's discontent was caused by the joke of the Prime Minister of Slovakia Igor Matovich that he “promised to transfer the Transcarpathian Ukraine to Russia in exchange for the supply of a large batch of the drug from COVID-19.” The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reacted to this statement and demanded an apology.
It was noted that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba was offended by Matovich's words. “Let him exchange it for several regions of Slovakia,” he wrote on his Facebook.
Slovakia received the first batch of the Russian-made Sputnik V vaccine, despite its lack of permits from the European Union, on March 2. The Ukrainian government previously banned the registration of any Russian vaccines against coronavirus on its territory.
