In Siberian fir found substances that restore the liver of an alcoholic
Scientists from the Arbuzov Institute of Organic Chemistry of the Kazan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the course of the study found Siberian substances in fir that restore the liver of people suffering from alcohol addiction, RIA Novosti reports.
As noted, we are talking about terpenes. They are found in the trunk and roots of the tree. This substance has powerful hepatoprotective properties.
According to the candidate of medical sciences Lyudmila Lacerus, Siberian fir releases terpenes, which allow keeping cells in a stable state even under unfavorable stress conditions. In the human body, terpenes are involved in the synthesis of cholesterol, squalene, sex hormones, steroid hormones and enzymes. Scientists recalled that people have long been using terpenes (menthol, limonene and camphor) for the prevention and treatment of various diseases. Nevertheless, experts have learned about the hepatoprotective properties of these substances only now.
In order to establish this property of terpenes, experts conducted an experiment. For a month, they injected rodents with ethanol diluted with water, as well as preparations with terpene. As a result, under the influence of terpenes, the blood counts in the test animals returned to normal and the damage to liver cells significantly decreased.
Earlier, scientists from the University of Tsukuba in Japan named a way to keep the liver in good condition. They recommended moderate to vigorous exercise. And experts from the University of Cambridge were able to grow in a test tube and transplant biliary cells into a damaged human liver.
