The actions of the military alliance AUKUS (which includes Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States) in the Indian and Pacific Oceans are of concern to Russia, as it is happening in the immediate vicinity of its borders. The Ambassador of Russia to Indonesia Lyudmila Vorobyova spoke about this in an interview with Republik Merdeka.
“I want to say that we consider this agreement to be very dangerous. It will not bring peace to the region or Indonesia, ”she said. Vorobyova explained that the activities of AUKUS could provoke an arms race instead of ensuring stability in the region. The ambassador noted that the negative reaction of the Indonesian authorities to the creation of the alliance is connected precisely with this.
“Who wants to have neighbors who have nuclear submarines?” She added.
As part of the AUKUS alliance announced by Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States in September this year, the parties have planned to exchange defense technology with each other. In particular, Canberra will receive nuclear submarine technologies from Washington or London. At the same time, the contract for the creation of non-nuclear submarines by Paris for Canberra was terminated.
