The Zircon hypersonic missile is taking the Russian Navy to a whole new level, Director General of the Northern Design Bureau (PKB) Andrey Dyachkov told TASS.
The head called this weapon “our today's trump card for a very serious future.” “The characteristics of this complex have not yet been surpassed,” said the CEO.
Dyachkov added that the Russian Navy “is constantly developing, including through the adoption of new weapons systems”, which in the long term means that in the event of the outbreak of hostilities “warships will have completely new qualities than today.”
In March, TASS, referring to a source in the military-industrial complex, reported that the Zircon hypersonic missile had been tested from a surface carrier – the frigate Admiral Gorshkov of the Northern Fleet (SF) of the Russian Navy.
In February it was reported that this year the Zircon hypersonic missile is planned to be used from the K-560 Severodvinsk nuclear submarine of Project 885 Ash.
