Defense Minister Shoigu: serial deliveries of the Zircon missile will begin in 2022

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has revealed the timing of serial deliveries of the Zircon cruise missile to the troops. During a speech at an expanded meeting of the collegium of the defense department, he noted that the supply of ammunition would begin in 2022. TASS reports.
“State tests of the Zircon sea-based hypersonic cruise missile are nearing completion. Serial deliveries will begin next year, ”Shoigu said.
The minister also noted that more than 258 billion rubles will be allocated for the supply of high-precision weapons. According to him, by 2026 the number of cruise missiles of various types will double, and the number of long-range high-precision weapons carriers will increase by 30 percent.
Earlier, the frigate Admiral Gorshkov launched the Zircon hypersonic missile as part of the tests. The ammunition hit a target at the Chizha training ground in the Arkhangelsk region.
In November, a TASS source in the Ministry of Defense announced the start of production of the Zircon missiles. He noted that the ammunition is manufactured at the Reutov NPO Mashinostroeniya.
