A new coast guard brigade has been formed on Sakhalin, armed with Bastion supersonic cruise missiles and low-altitude Bal missiles, Izvestia reports, citing sources in the Russian Defense Ministry.
According to the newspaper, the corresponding coastal missile systems (BRK) will fully protect the Pacific coast of Russia “from the landing and approach of ships with cruise missiles.”
“When I was the chief of staff of the Black Sea Fleet, our DBK fired almost to the Bosphorus, the enemy could pass through the strait and immediately come under fire,” recalls the former chief of the Main Staff of the Navy (Navy) Admiral Valentin Selivanov, commenting on the message about new DBK on Sakhalin.
In his opinion, “all enemy targets on the approaches to the Kuriles and Sakhalin will be hit with high accuracy.”
In February 2020, the (former) Commander of the Naval Forces (Navy) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Admiral Igor Voronchenko, estimated the total salvo of the Caliber, Bastion and Ball missiles of the Black Sea Fleet and the Caspian Flotilla of the Russian Navy at 120 missiles. In his opinion, in 2022 the total salvo will be increased to 168 launches.
