An-12 disappeared from radar over the Irkutsk region of the Russian Federation.
On Wednesday, November 3, an An-12 cargo plane belonging to the Belarusian Grodno airline crashed while landing in the Russian city of Irkutsk.
This was reported by the SHOT Telegram channel.
The aircraft flew from Yakutsk, returning to the base airport after transporting food and household goods to Chukotka. At an altitude of 240 meters, the crew requested a go-around from the dispatcher, after which his mark on the radar disappeared.
As it turned out, the plane did not reach the airfield and fell near the village of Pivovarikha near Irkutsk, 4 kilometers from the runway. The plane crash caused a fire, which was eliminated by the rescuers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
There were seven people on board the aircraft – five crew members and two people accompanying the cargo. In all likelihood, they all died.
Among the crew members were two Ukrainians – 50-year-old co-pilot Oleg Shchuchka and 60-year-old Alexander Chuprienko. Three citizens of Belarus and two Russians were also killed in the plane crash.
A criminal case has been initiated into the crash. It could be caused by improper actions of the crew in bad weather conditions. The landing was complicated by strong winds and snowstorms.
Let us remind you that earlier an An-26 cargo plane crashed near the capital of South Sudan, Juba. According to preliminary data, five people died in the crash, including two Russians.
