In Russia, 11 species of animals are recognized as probably extinct
The Ministry of Natural Resources told which animals probably disappeared in Russia. This is evidenced by the results of the latest inventory, writes Kommersant.
So, the monk seal, black-bellied capercaillie, Przewalski's horse, red-footed ibis, Yankovsky's bunting, kulan and others are classified as rarity category 0. There is also fish on this list: for example, the aboriginal population of the Baltic sturgeon.
In addition, the specialists of the department said that over the past 400 years, nine species and subspecies of animals have disappeared from the territory of Russia. At the same time, the number of animals and plants that are listed in the Red Book is growing. Now there are 443 animals and 676 plants.
Earlier, Russian scientists were the first in the world to decode the jaguarundi genome. Genome studies help preserve rare species and restore populations of endangered animals.
