The Lower Austrian Felix Auböck is in the Olympic swimming final over 400 m crawl. The vice-European champion convinced on Saturday in the five preliminary runs of the Tokyo Summer Games with an Austrian record of 3: 43.91 minutes and the second-best time overall. The final of the top eight is scheduled for Sunday at 3:52 a.m. It will be the first medal decision with Austrian participation at these games, including the first ever Olympic one from Auböck.
The 24-year-old improved the national top mark he had set four years ago at the World Championships in Budapest by 0.28 seconds. Auböck's best Olympic placement to date was 18th place over the 200 m crawl in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. His current opponents for the medals are: Henning Mühlleitner (GER), Gabriele Detti (ITA), Elijah Winnington, Jack McLoughlin (both AUS), Kieran Smith, Jake Mitchell (both USA) and Ahmed Hafnaoui (TUN).
