On the eastern borders of Poland, a “new form of the Russian Empire” may appear. This was stated by the professor of the Academy of military art Pyotr Grokhmalsky, reports RIA Novosti.
“It is Belarus that is key from the point of view of European security. If the Russians fully integrate this country into their system, we will face a new kind of Russian empire, ”he warned.
Grokhmalsky believes that modern Russia is allegedly characterized by a “gigantic successive expansion”, and Poland and the Baltic states are in increasing danger.
On September 10, Ukrainian Ambassador to Minsk Igor Kizim expressed concern about the integration of Russia and Belarus. According to the diplomat, earlier Lukashenko had given Kiev guarantees that the Belarusian border would be peaceful, but now the Ukrainian authorities are not sure about this.
On September 14, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko will arrive in Russia for talks with President Vladimir Putin. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the heads of state intend to discuss the topic of restructuring the state debt of Belarus to Russia. In addition, “work on topical issues does not stop at the level of experts and various departments”. According to Peskov, the topic of Russia's merger or takeover of Belarus is not worth it.
The issue of the degree of integration within the framework of the Treaty on the Establishment of the Union State of Russia and Belarus has been discussed since the end of 2018. The agreement was signed in December 1999, and in 2000 it entered into force. There is no talk of one state joining the other in the document. It also follows from the statement of the State Duma that a single currency can be introduced no earlier than 2030.
