In New York, a police robot dog helps in negotiations with criminals

In New York, a robot dog entered the police service. He takes part in special operations, saving the police from direct contact with criminals, Abc7NY reports.

The robot dog is called Digidog (“Tsifropes”), it is adapted to perform work that is dangerous to police. The iron assistant began his duties in October this year and has already shown his usefulness in negotiations with criminals.

“Tsifropes” weighs 31 kilograms and runs at a speed of 5.6 kilometers per hour, he is able to climb stairs and avoid obstacles. The robot executes commands, finds its bearings and makes a route. It has a built-in camera and a flashlight, which helps police officers to scout dangerous premises.

Robopes, equipped with a two-way communication system, twice participated in special operations. In October, he helped to take control of the situation in Brooklyn, where the suspect settled in one of the houses. And in Queens, he was used to negotiate with two criminals who captured five people. “Tsifropes” delivered food and water to the place of detention.

The police note that such a robot can take on the duties of police officers, who are forced to go under the sight of intruders. One of the officers trained to operate the robop admitted that it was as easy as playing a video game.

In January, “Tsifropes” will receive a “hand” with which he can open doors and move objects. The Digidog is currently the only copy run by the NYPD.

We will remind, in December last year in the state of Massachusetts, a robot dog from Boston Dynamics entered the police service. It is used to check potentially hazardous environments where suspects might be hiding.
