The accident with the athlete occurred during a walk on the Moscow River.
In the Russian capital of Moscow, 53-year-old 2000 Olympic champion Irina Privalova was hospitalized with severe hypothermia. The athlete fell through the ice on the Moscow River.
This was reported on the REN TV Telegram channel, posting a video from the scene.
The incident with Privalova took place in a Moscow park near the Fili metro station. The Olympic champion tried to cross the river on frozen ice, but unexpectedly, the ice cracked under the feet of the 53-year-old athlete.
Rescuers helped the woman get out of the icy water. With severe hypothermia, she was hospitalized in one of the capital's hospitals.
In 2000, Irina Privalova won gold medals at the Sydney Olympics, where she won the 400-meter hurdles. After completing an active sports career, she holds the position of First Vice President and member of the Presidium of the All-Russian Athletics Federation.
