In Moscow, June 23 was the hottest day in the history of meteorological observations. The previous 73-year-old heat record has been broken, Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, told TASS.
“The temperature in Moscow reached 34.3 degrees at 14:00. The record was taken by a noticeable margin, ”he said, adding that the previous record on June 23 belonged to 1948, then the air warmed up to 33.6 degrees. According to Vilfand, new heat records are possible in the Russian capital this week.
“Tomorrow the record value of 1948 is 33.5 degrees, for June 25 – 33.1 degrees in 2010, for June 26 – 33.6 in 2010, too,” said the forecaster. According to the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, 34-36 degrees Celsius are expected on Thursday and Friday in Moscow, and 33-35 degrees on Saturday.
