In Moscow, 5404 new patients with coronavirus have been identified over the past day, the capital's operational headquarters reported on Telegram. This is a record figure since July 11, when 5410 people fell ill with coronavirus in the city per day.
At the same time, over the past day – October 6-7 – 69 people with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 have died in Moscow, follows from the data of the headquarters. This is one of the largest figures for the last 24 hours in Russia.
Following the capital, most of the new cases were detected in:
- Petersburg – 2,418 new patients with COVID-19;
- Moscow region – 1454;
- and in the Samara region – 644.
In early October, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that the epidemiological situation in the city was alarming. However, he said, over the past week, the incidence increased by 30%, while the number of hospitalizations for coronavirus patients increased by 120%.
The Moscow authorities are planning to organize a large-scale rapid testing system for COVID-19, Sobyanin said later. According to him, it will become widespread within one to two weeks, and schools in places with the greatest increase in morbidity will become priority places for checks. About 5 million people have been vaccinated against coronavirus in the city, the mayor said on October 5.
In total, in Russia over the past 24 hours, coronavirus was detected in 27,550 people, 924 died. This is a record number of cases detected since the beginning of the year in 24 hours.
