In Mexico, a mayoral candidate was shot dead during a meeting with voters

On Wednesday, May 29, a candidate for mayor of the Mexican city of Coyuca de Benitez in in the state of Guerrero, from the center-right Strength and Heart for Mexico alliance, José Alfredo Cabrera Barrientos was shot and killed during a pre-election meeting with voters.

This was reported by El Universal.

An unknown person approached the politician from behind while he was standing with voters on the basketball court and shot him in the head.

In footage published on social networks, about 15 shots are heard. According to the prosecutor's office, the attacker was killed red-handed.

Recall that during the election campaign in this state, five candidates for mayor and one for deputy were killed. Journalists of the publication noted that it is for this state that such murders of politicians are almost a common occurrence.
