Russian sources reported that Wagner's losses amounted to 33 killed and 18 wounded.
Dozens of Wagner mercenaries were killed and wounded in Mali, as well as the well-known Russian propagandist Nikita Fedyanin and, probably, the PIK commander Anton Elizarov (pseudonym “Lotus”).
This is stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Analysts cite footage from social networks that show numerous bodies of “Wagner” mercenaries, including the body of the administrator of the Telegram channel “Gray Zone” Nikita Fedyanin, who has regularly covered Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and has been a harsh critic of the Russian Defense Ministry.
Sources close to Fedyanin confirmed Fedyanin's death to the Russian state news agency TASS on July 28.
“A Russian insider source claimed Wagner's losses were 33 killed and 18 wounded, while various Russian sources claimed the rebels had captured several prisoners, with some suggesting Wagner commander Anton Elizarov had been captured. However, one Russian, that the Russian Ministry of Defense paid a ransom for each enthusiastic mercenary, except for Elizarov, and several other mibloggers claimed that he died in an ambush,” the report says.
Analysts cannot independently verify whether Elizarov was captured or killed.
