The night before in Kiev, a young woman with a young son tried to jump from the 12th floor. Police officers and employees of the State Emergency Service rescued the mother and child.
On the evening of January 26, a woman contacted the police, who reported that her daughter and her young grandson had locked themselves in an apartment and threatened to jump off the balcony with the child.
For more than an hour, the police talked with the boy’s mother, and at that time rescuers entered the apartment on the floor above to prevent the woman.
Then the GSCHS fighters broke down the front door of the woman’s apartment, law enforcement officers quickly dragged her into the apartment, the boy was handed over to doctors. So far, his life is not in danger.
— From the moment of receiving the call, I talked to the woman on the phone so that at this time the rescuers had time to descend from the apartment on the floor above. I constantly distracted the woman with various questions and was interested in where her son was, asked not to take a lethal step, offered help—” said Alexander Savchuk, acting head of the Darnitsky police department.
According to him, law enforcement officers, as soon as they got into the apartment, pulled the woman from the balcony, and the 3-year-old boy was calmed down, because he was very frightened by the actions of his mother. The child was handed over to his grandmother.
A 32-year-old native of Kropyvnytskyi was detained.
Investigators of the Darnitsa Police Department have started proceedings under Part 3 of Article 15, part 2 of paragraph 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – attempted premeditated murder of a minor child. The woman faces up to 15 years or life imprisonment.
