Video: protesters in Kazakhstan block army trucks in the steppe
In the Mangistau region of Kazakhstan, protesters, dissatisfied with the situation with gas prices for cars, staged a chase after army trucks, which transferred the military around the roads blocked by the demonstrators. The video was published on its Telegram channel by the Kazakh Telegraph Agency (KazTAG).
The publication says that the protesters took away part of the military equipment, but a large convoy still managed to get through to Aktau, the administrative center of the Mangistau region, where, despite concessions from the authorities, rallies continue.
The protests, which began on January 2 in the Mangistau region due to a sharp rise in gas prices for vehicles, have not stopped for several days and have covered other regions of Kazakhstan. In addition to lowering fuel prices, some demonstrators demand that the first president of the republic, Nursultan Nazarbayev, leave the policy and talk with the current head of the republic, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
