Over the past day, more than 9.1 thousand cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Kazakhstan for the first time.

The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan announced the strengthening of quarantine measures against the backdrop of a sharp increase in the incidence of COVID-19 and the spread of a new strain of coronavirus “Omicron”.

It is reported by KazTAG.

It is noted that from Friday, January 14, residents of the country will also need to have a “green” safe status to visit sports and recreation, fitness and yoga centers, swimming pools, saunas or baths.

We are talking, in particular, about the presence of vaccination against COVID-19, a PCR test with a negative result, from the moment of sampling of which a maximum of seven days have passed, permanent medical indications or a certificate of recovery from coronavirus infection within three months.

Recall that over the past day in Kazakhstan, 9,122 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded, which is the highest increase in infections in the country since the beginning of the pandemic. In Nur-Sultan, in particular, another 5,118 people received positive test results for coronavirus – this is a new record for the capital.

As reported, on Tuesday in Kazakhstan amid a sharp jump in COVID infections, the number of cases of coronavirus exceeded one million.

At the beginning of 2022, protests continued in Kazakhstan over the price of liquefied gas for several days in a row, against which the country's President Kasim-Zhomart Tokayev declared a state of emergency and turned to the CSTO with a request for military support.

From January 6 to Kazakhstan peacekeeping forces began to arrive from the countries participating in the Collective Security Treaty Organization, in particular from Russia.

On January 7, the president announced that he had ordered the security forces to open fire to kill without warning. On the evening of the same day, the authorities reported that the cities had been taken under control and that order had almost been restored.

On January 13, the CSTO officially announced the end of the military operation in Kazakhstan and began to withdraw troops.
