In Japan, a bunch of rare grapes sold for $ 12.7 thousand
A bunch of grapes of a rare variety “Roman ruby” were sold at an auction in the Japanese city of Kanazawa for a record 1.4 million yen ($ 12.7 thousand), according to the Kyodo agency.
It is noted that for three years in a row the record for the cost of a bunch of “Roman ruby” has been breaking at an auction in Kanazawa. This year it was acquired by the owner of a Japanese supermarket chain in Taiwan.
The “Roman Ruby” variety was developed by Japanese breeders in 2008. Its berries are scarlet and the size of the grapes is comparable to ping-pong balls. The fruit of this variety has a thin skin and juicy, sweet pulp. According to the standards, the share of sugar must be at least 18% of the content of elite grapes, therefore in Japan “Roman ruby” is very popular among lovers of sweet delicacies.
